KUALA LUMPUR (June 13): Chief Justice Tun Raus Sharif and Court of Appeal President Tan Sri Zulkefli Ahmad Makinudin have resigned from their respective positions effective July 31.

In a statement today, the office of the chief registrar said Raus and Zulkefli had met with Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad on May 15 to convey their decision to resign.

However, the duo had informed the Prime Minister that the resignations will have to be at a reasonable date in order to complete all pending judicial matters.

In consideration of that, Raus and Zulkelfi had then sent their resignation letters to the Yang di Pertuan Agong on June 7, informing His Majesty of their resignation effective July 31.

The King accepted their resignation on June 8 and his decision was conveyed to the judges vide a letter from the palace on June 11.
