KUALA LUMPUR (June 4): Cheras recorded 366 active cases for the two-week period from noon of May 21 until noon yesterday, the highest among all health districts in the country, according to the Ministry of Health (MoH).

Based on a map provided by the MoH’s Crisis Preparedness and Response Centre (CPRC), the total number of active cases in Kuala Lumpur rose to 451, the highest among all states and federal territories (FTs), followed by Selangor (212) and Negeri Sembilan (99).

The number of cumulative cases in the capital city rose to 2,099, compared to Selangor (1,928) and Negeri Sembilan (902).

Besides Cheras, Lembah Pantai was another health district in the capital city that was categorised as a red zone area, with 79 active cases.

Meanwhile, Kepong and Titiwangsa were categorised as yellow zones as both health districts recorded three active cases respectively.

Other health districts that were identified as red zones included Hulu Langat (96) and Sepang (66) in Selangor, and Rembau (94) in Negeri Sembilan.

In total, 809 positive cases were detected during the two-week period, said the MoH, a 9.5% increase from 739 cases in the two-week period between May 20 and June 2.

According to the ministry, the cases counted during the two-week period were local transmissions involving Malaysians and non-citizens, including detainees at immigration detention centres in Bukit Jalil, Semenyih, Sepang and Putrajaya.

Active cases refer to patients being treated in hospitals, added the MoH.

The MoH has three categories of Covid-19 zones: Red zones are defined as districts with at least 41 active Covid-19 cases, yellow zones have one to 40 cases, while green zones have no active case.

Meanwhile, two more states were declared as green zones today. Kedah and Terengganu joined Penang, Perlis, Kelantan and Labuan as states with no active Covid-19 case.

As for the other states, Pahang had 23 active cases, followed by Johor (four), Putrajaya (four), Melaka (three) and Perak (one).

In East Malaysia, both Sarawak and Sabah had six active cases respectively.

Yesterday, the ministry reported 93 new cases, bringing the total number of infections in the country to 7,970, with 1,324 active cases nationwide.

The MoH said no death was recorded for the 12th consecutive day, maintaining the death toll from the virus at 115, which translated into 1.44% of overall cases.

Meanwhile, 61 patients were discharged, bringing total recoveries to 6,531.
