KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 21): The Edge Malaysia’s Best Managed & Sustainable Property Awards (BMSPA) 2022 dinner was held at Hilton Kuala Lumpur on Aug 15. The main aim of the awards was to raise the bar on property management practices and sustainable real estate in the country, benchmarking them against the best in class globally.

It was the sixth edition of the annual awards, hosted initially by EdgeProp Malaysia, with winners coming from eight categories covering residential, office, mixed development, retail and specialised components. These categories were divided into two segments to reflect the age of a product — below 10 years, and 10 years and above.

In addition to the anchor awards, the BMSPA 2022 also presented The Edge Malaysia-ILAM Malaysia’s Sustainable Landscape Awards 2022, and the Editor’s Choice Awards 2022.

Property management firm Henry Butcher Malaysia (Mont Kiara) Sdn Bhd was the star of the awards, winning 10 awards for properties they manage. Other companies that won include Knight Frank Property Management Sdn Bhd, SDB Property Management Sdn Bhd, Rahim & Co International Sdn Bhd, LaurelCap Sdn Bhd, DASB Property Management Sdn Bhd, RCMC Sdn Bhd, Sunway Property & Facility Management Sdn Bhd, Ikano Corp Sdn Bhd and UDA Holdings Bhd.

The Edge Media Group publisher and group chief executive officer Datuk Ho Kay Tat said at the awards dinner: “Our judges, who represent key stakeholders in the real estate industry in Malaysia and Singapore, shortlisted 42 developments. They visited each of the 42 developments, going as far as Penang and Johor Bahru. For all intents and purposes, the detailed site inspections were nothing short of ‘free audits’."

This year’s sponsors were Nippon Paint Malaysia and Panasonic Malaysia — the main and supporting partners respectively.

Nippon Paint has been sponsoring the awards since 2017, while it was Panasonic’s fourth year as a sponsor.

The BMSPA 2022 was endorsed by the Ministry of Housing and Local Government, and supported by EdgeProp Malaysia, Rehda, the ILAM, MIPFM, MRMA, BMAM, Architect Centre and APFM. The results were audited by Deloitte Malaysia.
