KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 22): CMS Infra Trading Sdn Bhd has signed an exclusive agency agreement with IPV Distributors Sdn Bhd for the supply, delivery, installation and commissioning of heavy duty light emitting diode (LED), known as IPVLED, for the Sarawak market.

CMS Infra is Cahya Mata Sarawak Bhd (CMSB)'s joint-venture company with Sarawak Economic Development Corporation. The company is a distributor for a wide range of products and services related to water management, and is also an agent for distribution of construction materials.

IPV Distributors is involved in the business of distributing, marketing, installing and commissioning of miscellaneous electrical equipment including lighting equipment for the Southeast Asian markets.

In a statement today, CMSB said the agency agreement aims to establish, develop and optimise the heavy duty LED lighting business in Sarawak and Sabah, especially in the niche market such as high mast, high bay, stadiums and street lightings.

This initiative is also to support the government's call for Malaysia to be a Green Technology Hub by 2030.

"The benefits of LED lights among others are that they are an eco-friendly form of lighting as they do not contain mercury nor other harmful gases nor emit any harmful UV rays, are energy efficient and low maintenance.

"LED is a priority industry in Malaysia as the world moves towards green technology and energy saving trends," read the group's statement.

The exclusive agency agreement was inked today by CMS group managing director Datuk Richard Curtis and IPV Distributors chairman Ibrahim Hashim.

At 12.30pm, CMS shares were unchanged at RM3.82 today for a market capitalisation of RM4.1 billion.
