KUALA LUMPUR (May 16): It is business as usual for the East Coast Rail Link project, a project spokesperson said today.

“We have briefed the council on the status of the project. I understand they (the council) are fully aware of the status and I believe they will make a statement soon,” Rosmah Mahmud, head of corporate communications of Malaysia Rail Link Sdn Bhd, told the press on the sidelines of a meeting between heads of infrastructure projects and the Team of Eminent Persons today.

Commenting further, Rosmah said there has been no stop work order issued on the project.

“Previously, it had been 13% completed (as of) a few weeks ago. As of yesterday, the team updated that it is now 14% completed,” she added.

MRL is the project owner for the 688-kilometre ECRL.

MRL chief executive officer Datuk Seri Darwis Abdul Razak was among a few heads of infrastructure projects who had attended a meeting with the Team of Eminent Persons at Ilham Tower here today.

The meetings are part of the Pakatan Harapan government’s plan to review the necessity of mega infrastructure projects such as ECRL and Kuala Lumpur-Singapore High Speed Rail (KL-Singapore HSR).
