KUALA LUMPUR (May 14): Bursa Malaysia Bhd’s share price rose as much as 20 sen or 3.34% to RM6.19 today after securities trade volume across the exchange rose to a record high of 9.59 billion units yesterday.

At 11:17am today, the stock exchange operator and regulator's share price pared gains at RM6.11 for a market capitalisation of RM4.94 billion. The counter saw 1.36 million shares changing hands.

At 11:34am, trade volume across the bourse stood at 3.51 billion units valued at RM2.05 billion.

Yesterday, trade volume across the local stock exchange closed higher at an all-time high of 9.59 billion units worth RM5.1 billion as the spectre of a resurgence in the Covid-19 outbreak dictated world stock market sentiment.

The spectre of a Covid-19 outbreak resurgence led to buying of shares in healthcare-related companies like rubber glove manufacturers and hospital operators.

The bourse previously saw its trading volume surge to an all-time high on Aug 20, 2014, when 7.67 billion units were transacted.

Commenting on the all-time high trade volume yesterday, TA Securities Holdings Bhd technical analyst Steven Soo told theedgemarkets.com that the firm deemed the sentiment as “overdone”.
