KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 25): Bursa Malaysia Bhd said today it had last week disposed of 85,000 shares in Nasdaq-listed CME Group Inc on the open market for US$17.58 million or RM73.45 million.

Bursa Malaysia said today in a statement on its website that proceeds from the disposal will be used to finance Bursa Malaysia's planned acquisition of the remaining 25% equity interest in Bursa Malaysia Derivatives Bhd from CME Group Strategic Investments LLC as announced on Sept 18, 2019.

"Following the acquisition, Bursa Derivatives will be a wholly-owned subsidiary of Bursa Malaysia. This will enable Bursa Malaysia to streamline its assets and expand its offerings in the derivatives business," Bursa Malaysia said then.

Today, Bursa Malaysia said it had sold the 85,000 shares in CME Group Inc on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday (Nov 20, 21 and 22).

"The disposal consideration was based on the prevailing market price at the point of disposal," Bursa Malaysia said.

According to Bursa Malaysia, it had bought the 85,000 shares in CME Group Inc on Nov 30, 2009 for US$5.58 million or US$65.65 a share.

Today, Bursa Malaysia shares settled one sen or 0.17% up at RM6.07 at the 12:30pm afternoon break for a market capitalisation of RM4.92 billion. Bursa Malaysia saw 111,400 shares traded.
