KUALA LUMPUR (July 23): Bumi Armada Bhd said today neither the company nor its 95%-owned subsidiary Bumi Armada Navigation Sdn Bhd (BAN) has been served with any official court documents in relation to the Aircel-Maxis case in India.

"The companies are not aware of any of the allegations against them," Bumi Armada said in a filing with Bursa Malaysia today.

"Bumi Armada and BAN are therefore unable to comment on the matters reported in the media at this juncture," it added.

In a separate filing, Maxis Bhd also said its subsidiary Maxis Mobile Sdn Bhd has not been served with any official documents and is not aware of the allegations made against Maxis Mobile.

“(As such,) Maxis is not in a position to comment on the media reports at this juncture,” it added.

They were commenting on news reports that India's Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had on July 19 filed charges on tycoon T Ananda Krishnan, former India finance minister P. Chidambaram and his son Karti Chidambaram, and five other government officials, among others, as an accused in the supplementary charge sheet filed in the Aircel-Maxis case in India.

The charge sheet claims that two illegal payments of Rs 26 lakhs and Rs 87 lakhs were paid to Karti’s companies – Chess Management and Advantage Strategic Consulting Pte Ltd (which is allegedly indirectly owned by him) during the Aircel-Maxis deal.

The other companies reportedly charged included those linked to Ananda such as Astro All Asia Networks PLC, Maxis Mobile, Bumi Armada and BAN.

According to Bumi Armada's Annual Report 2017, Ananda owned a 34.92% stake in the group via his private investment vehicle Objektif Bersatu Sdn Bhd as at March 30.

Bumi Armada shares closed up 0.5 sen or 0.69% at 73 sen today, for a market capitalisation of RM4.23 billion. Maxis shares settled at RM5.58, up one sen or 0.18%, valuing it at RM43.62 billion.
