KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 23): Rumours of a hostile coup of some sort swirled when Datuk Tee Eng Ho took over the stewardship of Eastern & Oriental (E&O) Bhd last May from Datuk Terry Tham. It was all too easy to imagine the older, elegant Tham — who has been based in the UK for some years now — being "pushed aside" by the much younger Tee. In his first interview with Options, Tee — who is incidentally the founder of Kerjaya Prospek Group Bhd, the contractor for many E&O projects — puts paid to these rumours, outlining both the healthy relationship he has with Tham and his personal and professional investments in the company's enduring success.

A businessman at heart with a passion for construction, Tee talks fondly about E&O's two Klang Valley projects, The Peak and The Conlay, but is frank about his focus going forward: Andaman, a reclaimed island project that is located just off E&O's highly successful Penang project, Seri Tanjung Pinang. While Tee is firm about keeping things the way they have been at E&O, his vision for the future does include a strong focus on technology and sustainability — and he articulates that in his signature no-nonsense style.

This being the week preceding Chinese New Year, our Treasury column outlines some must-have picks to fete the season while our Style + Design page is filled with stunning pictures of capsule collections unveiled by fashion maisons in conjunction with the Year of the Tiger. Books play a starring role in this week's issue as well — there is a story on a community library in Batang Ai, Sarawak; a review of Ai Weiwei's 1000 Years of Joys and Sorrows, a peek into BookXcess' female-friendly Powder Room; and a look at three tomes penned by style and fashion icon Andre Leon Talley, who died aged 73 on Jan 19.

Other fun indulgences in our Jan 24 issue include a review of Volvo's XC40 Recharge T5, a selection of whisky flights, cocktails and bottles to celebrate Scottish bard Robert Burns, and a list of meatless eateries for a final chance to mark Veganuary before the CNY feasting begins in earnest.

Read all of this in the latest issue of Options, out now with the Jan 24 edition of The Edge Malaysia weekly.
