KUALA LUMPUR (March 11): Berjaya Sports Toto Bhd (BToto)’s Philippine-based subsidiary has acquired another 0.14% stake in 7-Eleven Malaysia Bhd for RM2.23 million.

The group said in a bourse filing today that its 88.26%-owned subsidiary Berjaya Philippines Inc (BPI) which is listed on the Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE), acquired 1.59 million shares in 7-Eleven Malaysia.

The shares were acquired in the open market of Bursa Malaysia from Dec 20 last year to March 8 this year.

With the acquisition, BPI now controls 23 million shares or a 2.04% stake in the convenience store company.

Separately, BToto also announced that it would be setting up a 50:50 joint venture to explore business opportunities and projects in Sri Lanka.

The group said its wholly-owned subsidiary FEAB Equities Sdn Bhd had entered into a shareholders agreement today with PP Cylabs (M) Sdn Bhd for the joint venture.

PP Cylabs is an investment holding company, with sole director and shareholder Dr Poh Soon Sim having expertise and contacts in Sri Lanka.

Shares of BToto closed three sen or 1.27% lower to RM2.33  today, with 1.52 million shares exchanging hands, giving the group a market capitalisation of RM3.19 billion.
