KUALA LUMPUR (May 23): Timber company BTM Resources Bhd has scrapped plans to set up a municipal solid waste-to-energy generation plant in Melaka.

In a filing to Bursa Malaysia, BTM Resources said its subsidiary BTM Western Power Green Energy Sdn Bhd has received a letter dated May 3, 2018 from the Department of National Solid Waste Management that it is not able to consider the company's application for the Melaka plant.

BTM Western Power and Sepco Electric Power Construction Company — the holding company of China's Sichuan No. 2 Electric Power Construction Co — had entered into a heads of agreement in November last year to develop a waste incineration power plant in Melaka with a daily processing capacity of not less than 1,000 tons.

BTM Resources closed unchanged at 15 sen today for a market capitalisation of RM21 million.
