KUALA LUMPUR (March 28): Boustead Heavy Industries Corp Bhd (BHIC) said its indirect unit has bagged a RM150 million contract from the defence ministry for the provision of in-service support for prime minister-class submarines for the Royal Malaysian Navy.

The contract awarded to Boustead DCNS Naval Corp Sdn Bhd (BDNC) is for a 13-month period from Dec 1, 2018, BHIC said in a filing with Bursa Malaysia.

BDNC is 40%-owned by French shipbuilder Naval Group and 60% by BHIC Defence Technologies Sdn Bhd, which in turn is a wholly-owned subsidiary of BHIC.

“A formal contract between the government of Malaysia and BDNC will be finalised and signed at a later date,” BHIC said.

The contract will contribute positively to the group’s earnings for the financial year ending Dec 31, 2019, BHIC said.

BHIC’s share price was last traded at RM1.24, for a market capitalisation of RM308.09 million.
