KUALA LUMPUR (April 1): Boustead Heavy Industries Corp Bhd (BHIC) has appointed Sharifuddin Md Zaini Al-Manaf as its new chief executive officer effective immediately.

According to an exchange filing today, Sharifuddin has held various roles in the upstream and downstream segments of the oil and gas industry including at Shell Malaysia.

“His last position was Shell Bitumen business manager for Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia,” BHIC said in the filing.

“He has covered offshore production operations, crude oil trading, sales, supply chain management and various others,” it added.

Prior to BHIC, Sharifuddin spent four years at Orkim Sdn Bhd, an investee company of Ekuiti Nasional Bhd (Ekuinas), a government-owned private equity firm.

Orkim is the leading oil tanker owner and operator in Malaysia, with vessels serving the region including Japan.
