HONG KONG (Nov 19): Bank of America Merrill Lynch lowers its forecast for Malaysia’s growth this year to 4.7%, from 5.1%, economist Mohamed Faiz Nagutha writes in note dated Nov. 16.

* Downward revision due to weaker-than-expected 3Q growth

** Expects growth to remain stable at around 4.5% in the quarters ahead

** “Private consumption is expected to snap back lower due to the front-loading, but the fall should be cushioned by the fiscal injection in Budget 2019.”

* Maintains growth forecast for 2019 at 4.5%

** Key downside risks include exposure to Chinese final demand

** Earlier-than-expected resumption of natural gas production may pose upside risk to 2019 forecast

* Expects Bank Negara Malaysia to stay on hold through next year and maintain its accommodative stance
