KUALA LUMPUR (May 6): Rescuers have found the body of a woman at the site where the helicopter that went missing in Sarawak last night was believed to have crashed, according to media reports.

The body was found at noon near the location of the debris believed to be from the helicopter that was located this morning, Bernama quoted Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department Director Nor Hisham Mohammad as saying.

The body will be taken to the Kuching General Hospital for a post-mortem examination, he said.

The AS350 helicopter is reported to have lost contact with the control tower three minutes after leaving Betong at 4.12 pm yesterday, on its way to Kuching. Attempts to re-establish contact by the air traffic controller were unsuccessful.

On board were Plantation Industries and Commodities Deputy Minister Datuk Noriah Kasnon, her husband Asmuni Abdullah, Kuala Kangsar MP Datuk Wan Mohammad Khair-il Anuar Wan Ahmad, Plantations Industries and Commodities Ministry secretary-general Datuk Dr Sundaran Annamalai, Noriah’s bodyguard Ahmad Sobri Harun and Filipino pilot Rudolf Rex Ragas.

They were in Betong for the Sarawak state election campaigning.
