KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 17): BNP Paribas Malaysia Bhd has appointed Anthony Lo as its chief executive officer (CEO) effective Oct 1, the group said in a statement today.

Lo took over the role from Philippe Aroyo, previously Head of Territory for Malaysia and CEO of BNP Paribas Malaysia Bhd, who is moving to take up a senior role in the Group, based in Paris.

“Lo is based in Kuala Lumpur and reports to Joris Dierckx, Head of Corporate and Institutional Banking for Southeast Asia,” said BNP Paribas.

Commenting on Lo’s appointment, Dierckx said Malaysia is a key market for the firm in Asia Pacific and an established and integrated franchise in the country since receiving a full banking license in 2010.

“With Lo’s extensive experience and understanding of the local market and client needs, I am confident that he will continue to develop our platform, client portfolio and people in Malaysia, and position our franchise strongly for future growth,” he added.

He also noted that the business and client franchise saw significant growth in the last four years under Aroyo’s leadership.

BNP Paribas established its presence in Malaysia with a representative office in 1973. Since then, it has expanded its operations with the opening of its offshore banking branch, BNP Paribas Labuan Branch, and locally incorporated subsidiary, BNP Paribas Malaysia Bhd.

In addition to the banking entities, it set up BNP Paribas Capital (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd in 1999, as well as two asset management entities: BNP Paribas Asset Management Malaysia Sdn Bhd and BNP Paribas Asset Management Najmah Malaysia Sdn Bhd in 2007.
