KUALA LUMPUR (April 9): PKR lawmaker Wong Chen claims that Barisan Nasional’s promises on affordable housing in its 14th general election (GE14) manifesto is a rehash of the promises made for GE13.

“The BN manifesto on public housing is unrealistic and a recycled policy which does not address fundamental issues like low wages and increasing cost of living,” said Wong.

Speaking at a press conference, Wong said the BN appears to be over-promising once again.

He said the coalition had in its GE13 manifesto promised to deliver 500,000 units of affordable homes under the PR1MA initiative, but as of March this year, only 3.2% or 16,000 units have been completed.

He added that that BN had also promised 20,000 units of affordable homes for settlers under the Federal Land Development Authority (Felda) in GE13, but Felda chairman Tan Sri Shahrir Samad had announced in April 2017 that construction work for phase one of the project, comprising 8,500 units, was just commencing.

“And we have checked with our Prime Minister’s website, these 8,500 units are still under construction so far,” Wong said.

Thus, he said there is a likelihood that the BN, if is returned to power in GE14, will under deliver again.
