Harris_Effendy-Shahul-Hamid_FD_28Oct15_theedgemarketsKUALA LUMPUR: In its sixth year as CIMB Classic’s premium partner, BMW Group Malaysia has provided a fleet of BMW 5 Series and BMW X5 vehicles that will be utilised as the official cars of the golfing event.

“We are pleased to be part of the growth and the success of the tournament throughout the years,” BMW Group Malaysia managing director and chief executive officer Alan Harris said, adding the group has been the premium automotive partner for the CIMB Classic tournament from its very beginning six years ago.

In a statement yesterday, BMW Group Malaysia said the fleet of BMW 5  Series and BMW X5 vehicles will be utilised for the shuttling of all players, officials, as well as VIPs who will be in Malaysia throughout the tournament grounds during the competition.

BMW Group Malaysia will also be showcasing the BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe, the BMW X6, the new BMW X1 sDrive 20i and the all-new BMW i8 at the tournament

The BMW i8, the first premium plug-in hybrid sports car in the world, is also the Hole-in One prize for  the tournament, the car maker added.

The 2+2 seater sports car is crafted with a Life Module passenger cell completely built from Carbon Fibre Reinforced Plastic (CFRP) as well as a Drive Module which combines the World Engine of the Year 2015 award-winning 1.5-litre, three-cylinder combustion engine with BMW TwinPower Turbo technology and electric motors.

Harris said BMW Group has a long history and commitment of being involved in the sport of golf.

“Our commitment in the sport of golf is at every level, from the premium amateur level events to competitions like the CIMB Classic, the first PGA TOUR-sanctioned event in Southeast Asia and the only official FedExCup event in Southeast Asia as well as the recent Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia,” said Harris.
