BUSINESS radio station BFM, which came under fire for releasing a video clip that questioned the implementation of hudud last week, said it will lodge a police report against those who had threatened its staff.

In a statement today, the station said it would give its full cooperation to the police over its investigation into the video clip, which had offended Muslims.

But the station would not tolerate threats against its staff, it said.

"Since the release of the video in question, our staff have been subject to numerous threats on their personal safety.

"Whilst we are open to criticism and even investigations by the relevant authorities, these threats are unwarranted and should not have a place in a society that espouses peace and tolerance. They are indeed criminal acts.

"The management of BFM Media Sdn Bhd will be filing a police report against all those who have threatened the safety and security of the station and its staff," BFM said in the statement.

The station said at 10am today, three of its staff, who was involved in the production of the video clip, had their statements recorded by the police. They are being probed under Section 298 of the Penal Code for blasphemy.

After speaking to the police, the trio were investigated by Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) officers under Section 233 of the Communications & Multimedia Act.

"BFM Media Sdn Bhd has at all times provided its full cooperation to the authorities and will continue to do so.

"The management fully supports our employees in the execution of their duties. We stand by them and remain committed to providing all support they require at this difficult time.

"On that note, we would like to record our thanks to all – friends, our listeners and media alike – who have supported Aisyah Tajuddin and BFM Media throughout this trying and traumatic time and hope to have their continued support," the station said.

Following the passing of the amendments to the Shariah Criminal Code II Enactment at the Kelantan legislative assembly last week, the station uploaded the BFM Projek Dialog BFMKupas video clip, raising questions about hudud and comparing it with bread and butter issues.

The video, which has since been taken down, angered some Muslims and Aisyah, the BFM journalist who presented the video, received rape and death threats via online comments in response to the video.

The station has since apologised for the video, and explained that Aisyah was only the stand-in presenter and had no part in writing the script.

In a statement today, Aisyah said it was never her intention to insult Islam and apologised for her tone and demeanour as seen in the video clip. – March 23, 2015.
