KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 24): Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu), one of the four component parties in Pakatan Harapan, has exited the ruling coalition, said its president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

In a Facebook post today, Muhyiddin said Bersatu decided to quit the coalition during the special meeting by the party leadership yesterday (Feb 23).

“Every member of parliament from Bersatu as such are also leaving Pakatan Harapan.

“All of them has signed statutory declaration to continue their support and to offer their trust to YAB Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad as the prime minister of Malaysia,” Muhyiddin said.

Bersatu was formed by Dr Mahathir as its chairman, following a fallout between Dr Mahathir and Umno prior to the 14th General Election.

Dr Mahathir went on to join PKR, Amanah and DAP to form Pakatan Harapan, which eventually ousted Barisan Nasional in GE14 on May 9, 2018.

Together with Dr Mahathir, Bersatu currently has 12 members in the cabinet. To date, it has 26 MPs in the Dewan Rakyat.
