KUALA LUMPUR (March 23): Berjaya Corp Bhd's share price rose to its two-year high of 30 sen in the afternoon session, as the counter emerged as the most active stock across Bursa Malaysia.

Shares of the company rose as much as 7.5 sen or 33.33% to 30 sen, before paring some gains to 26.5 sen — still up four sen or 17.78%. The counter saw 417.69 million shares traded, or 108 times its average trading volume of 3.83 million shares across the past four weeks.

Traders flocked to the counter, pushing the price up by nearly 50% since March 16, when the company announced the appointment of former Permodalan Nasional Bhd chief executive officer Abdul Jalil Abdul Rasheed as the first non-family member group chief executive officer in the Tan Sri Vincent Tan-controlled conglomerate.

On March 18, BCorp said it was partnering with London-based merchant bank and investment firm New World Capital Advisors Ltd to provide advisory services in Malaysia.

At 26.5 sen, BCorp has a market capitalisation of RM1.39 billion.
