KUALA LUMPUR: Activists such as Ali Abdul Jalil should be responsible for their actions and face the consequences rather than flee the country, said Attorney-General Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail.

He said Malaysian courts were fair and if Ali had done nothing wrong, then he had nothing to fear?

“For all activists, you must answer for what you have done. If you know what you’ve done, answer for it,” he was quoted as saying by The Star Online after launching the Institut Latihan Kehakiman Dan Perundangan speaker series in Bangi, Selangor yesterday.

Gani said the authorities had certain measures to ensure those who fled abroad returned to the country. “However, if you are fighting for what you believe in, you should be responsible for what you say. No need to run here or there.”

Ali said on Sunday that he had been advised by sex blogger Alvin Tan to seek asylum abroad. — The Malaysian Insider
