KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 20): Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) said it “will continue to collaborate with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and other relevant authorities in the investigation” to probe the Pandora Papers leak, which revealed offshore financial assets of prominent figures in the country.

The regulator was responding to The Edge in an email reply on the matter.

It did not comment further on what the investigation entailed or the findings from it.

MACC said in a statement last week the party will work with BNM and other agencies to probe the Pandora Papers.

The move comes after opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim raised the issue of the Pandora Papers in the Dewan Rakyat.

MACC also asked Anwar to assist in providing information regarding the Pandora Papers.

It was also reported earlier that DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng on Wednesday urged the Ministry of Finance to direct BNM to launch a full investigation into the Pandora Papers leak to show that the government is not attempting any cover-ups of both the Pandora Papers exposé involving Malaysians and illicit financial transactions.

The Pandora Papers is an anonymous dump of 11.9 million confidential financial files that included prominent Malaysians and politicians — sourced from 14 offshore service providers that set up and manage shell companies and trusts in tax havens, according to the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists.
