KUALA LUMPUR (May 21): Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali today thanked Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah for his consent for the former to accept the appointment as Minister of Economic Affairs and play a greater role in the Federal Government.

In a statement today, Azmin said the consent follows from the clarification and assurance received from Prime Minister Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad concerning the scope of work and areas of jurisdiction of the new Ministry.

“I would like to express my profound gratitude to the Sultan for the advice and guidance given throughout the duration of my administration of the Selangor State Government.

“Undoubtedly, the Sultan’s advice and guidance helped to strengthen my conviction to lead the state and enabled me to take Selangor to greater heights of achievement,” he said.

Earlier, the Selangor palace said Azmin will remain as the Selangor Mentri Besar until a candidate is sworn in to take his place.

A statement from the Selangor Palace signed by Ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah's private secretary Datuk Mohamad Munir Bani also stated that Azmin will be moving on to the Federal Government to assume the role of Economics Affairs Minister.
