KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 8): Economic Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali said today his ministry has not received the list of potential candidates for chief executive officer at plantation group FGV Holdings Bhd.

When asked about a news report in a local business daily that Azmin has rejected three internal names nominated by the board, Azmin said the CEO’s appointment isn’t a question of whether he approves of it or not.

“It isn’t the issue of whether I am in agreement or not with the appointment. We have to look at it as a whole, as there is a comprehensive recovery plan [for the Felda group] and its agencies,” he told reporters at the opening ceremony of the American Malaysian Chamber of Commerce's new executive office here today.

On the issue of political appointees on the board of government-linked companies (GLC), Azmin said political appointees will only be considered if they have the qualifications and merits for the role.

“In my view, we agree that there will be no political rewards in any GLCs, and I agree, the main priority for GLC [board] appointments should be professionals, but if there are any politicians who have the qualifications and merits, we will consider, but I reiterate here again that priority would be the working class professionals,” Azmin said.
