KUALA LUMPUR (April 28): The Election Commission (EC) has dishonoured the court by  disallowing PKR vice-president Chua Tian Chang from defending his Batu Parliamentary seat today, the party's deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali said.

In a statement, Azmin said the decision made by the returning officer that Chua’s RM2,000 fine from a conviction in 2013 made him ineligible to contest had dishonoured  Shah Alam High Court Judge Datuk Abdul Karim Abdul Rahman and Dewan Rakyat speaker Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia, who both ruled that the fine did not disqualify Chua from holding office at that time.

Chua was disqualified by the returning officer although he had provided the judgement of the Shah Alam court in which the judge said that the quantum of the fine did not disqualify Chua as a MP.

A similar ruling was also made by Tan Sri Pandikar Amin in allowing him to continue as a MP despite the fine.

“I urge everyone to provide undivided support for Pakatan Harapan to object to the actions of the EC,” Azmin said in the statement.

After his nomination was disallowed, Chua lodged a police report on the matter.
