KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 3): Axiata Group Bhd's board of directors is extending Tan Sri Jamaludin Ibrahim's contract as managing director, president and group chief executive officer (CEO) for a further three years from March this year.

In a filing with Bursa Malaysia today, Axiata said Jamaludin has been leading Axiata since 2008 and, together with his diversified management teams across the group, has turned it into a regional champion with major mobile operations in eight countries, and digital/internet ventures and tower infrastructure services in many others.

Axiata chairman Tan Sri Azman Mokhtar said Jamaludin will continue leading the group at this crucial moment to successfully oversee the turnaround of Celcom Axiata Bhd in Malaysia, the execution of PT XL Axiata Tbk's new strategy in Indonesia, and the merger of Robi and Airtel in Bangladesh, while at the same time capitalising successes at most operating companies including edotco Group Sdn Bhd and Axiata Digital Services Sdn Bhd ventures

"On top of that, Tan Sri Jamal will also continue with the transformation of the whole group into a Digital Champion and overcoming the disruptive forces affecting the telecommunication industry globally," he said.

Meanwhile, Axiata said it will be appointing Vivek Sood as group chief financial officer (CFO) starting Apr 3 this year, succeeding Thandalam Veeravalli Thirumala Chari, who retired from this position at end of December last year.

Axiata said Vivek has assumed a variety of senior leadership roles in the telecommunication and finance industries.

Most recently, he was Telenor Group Inc's executive vice president and group chief marketing officer.

Axiata also extended contracts for Mohamad Idham Nawawi as group chief corporate officer, Darke Mohamed Sani as group chief human resources officer, Datin Seri Badrunnisa Yasin Khan as group chief talent officer, Annis Sheikh Mohamed as group chief corporate development officer, Suryani Hussein as group company secretary and Tan Gim Boon as group general counsel and risk officer.

Axiata's share price climbed 15 sen or 3.12% to RM4.95 as at market close today, giving it a market capitalisation of RM44.41 billion.
