KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 18): Motor vehicles sales rose only marginally in August, rising to 51,125 units compared to 51,106 units sold in same month last year, said the Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA).

It is worth noting that passenger vehicle sales had slipped to 44,898 units, from 45,054 units recorded in August 2013; while sales in the commercial vehicle segment increased to 6,227 units, from 6,052 units last year.

Year-to-date, MAA pointed out that total industry volume sales rose 2.7% to 444,534 units, from 433,025 units registered in the corresponding period.

On outlook, MAA said sales volume for September was expected to be better than in August, due to the introduction of new models and continuation of aggressive promotional campaigns in the car market.
