KUALA LUMPUR: Astrums Consulting Sdn Bhd is focused on its goods and services tax (GST) compliance implementation services, which it expects will contribute to about 40% of its 2014 revenue, rising to 50% in 2015, said its managing director Sreenivas Kurup (pic).

Astrums, an MSC-status end-to-end information, communications and technology (ICT) support services company, has been operating in Malaysia for the past eight years, and has a client base encompassing multinationals and local companies, such as T-Systems Malaysia Sdn Bhd and Time dotCom Bhd.

With vast experience in GST and related implementation, Astrum has enabled clients ranging from the automotive, oil and gas, chemicals, plantations, to oleo chemicals, manufacturing and other sectors to be ready for the GST, Kurup told reporters at the opening of Astrums’ regional hub here yesterday.

He said the information technology consultancy firm had roped in a vast pool of local and foreign financial consultants, with their previous experiences in implementing GST systems in Singapore and the value added tax (VAT) in India, to help complete the assignments.

Astrums has completed 15 GST implementation assignments, with another 10 or more due by year-end. Another 10 are in the pipeline to be completed in time for the switchover on April 1, 2015.

The company has also adopted a rapid deployment solutions (RDS) system to assist in the GST implementation exercise.

“We are planning a workshop at our Centre of Excellence in KL Sentral on RDS, to help customers in their respective deployment exercises, with the best practices in place seamlessly and efficiently,” said Kurup.

Astrum, which has a workforce of around 800 globally, with 100 in its Malaysian operations, has plans to expand to the Middle East, and is also making inroads into Indonesia, Thailand and Mongolia, said Kurup.

It has offices in Singapore, India, China, Japan, the United States and Germany.
