KUALA LUMPUR: Against the backdrop of Putrajaya’s sedition blitz, an opposition politician has filed a civil suit for a declaration that provisions in the Sedition Act violated his freedom of speech. In his originating summons filed at the Kuala Lumpur High Court registry on Monday, PKR’s Seri Muda assemblyman Mat Shuhaimi Shafiei said sections 3 and 4 of the Sedition Act were against Article 10(1) (a) of the Federal Constitution. Section 3 gives a broad outline of seditious tendencies while section 4 states the penalties that can be imposed on those who uttered or published seditious comments. — The Malaysian Insider
