KUALA LUMPUR (May 27): Amanah Saham Nasional Bhd (ASNB) is warning the public about a fraudulent investment package scam by the name of ASNB Group that is being circulated on WhatsApp.

In a statement, ASNB said the scam involves the purported sender using its logo and name without permission and claiming to be a representative of the ASNB Group.

The sender will offer an investment package that promises an extraordinary return in a short period of time.

“The modus operandi of this scam is that if the receivers are interested to invest, they will only need to deposit a certain amount of money into the stated bank account through online banking.

“The money will then be purportedly traded in oil, stock and currency markets while investors only need to wait for the profits to be credited directly into their accounts,” it said.

ASNB said it has lodged a police report regarding the message and advised the public to be cautious and contact its Customer Services Centre if they receive any suspicious messages about packages under ASNB’s name.

“ASNB takes this matter very seriously and will not hesitate to take legal action against the perpetrator.

“For the public’s information, as a unit fund management company, ASNB has never appointed any individual to offer any investment packages either directly or through WhatApps or any other messaging application. ASNB has also never used and (is) not related to the ASNB Group for any product promotion and publicity activities.

“For those who wish to invest in any ASNB unit trust fund, they are advised to visit any ASNB branch or agent first to open an investment account with their original identification card,” he said.

Additional online investments can be made through the myASNB portal and Maybank2u, CIMBClicks, RHB Now and AffinOnline.
