(Aug 18): DAP today lodged a report with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) urging the anti-graft agency to commence investigation into an article in which Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Dahlan was reported to have said the prime minister had to "take out people" after an alleged charge sheet against him had emerged.

DAP's Gobind Singh Deo said the MACC should look at the content of the article and commence investigation under Section 23(1) of MACC Act 2009 for the offence of using office or position for gratification.

"I am referring to the laws because the law is there and I want MACC to probe what Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Dahlan had said in the article," Gobind said.

He also referred to a Malaysiakini report on July 8 where Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak himself was reported to have said that the scope of the special task force investigating The Wall Street Journal's claim against him was whether he used 1MDB funds for his personal interest.

"I want MACC to look at the substance of the report as it stands," the Puchong MP said.

In his interview with The Star over the weekend, Rahman, who is Barisan Nasional strategic communications director, had reportedly said that there were two theories out there.

"One is that this is a deliberate attempt to stop, delay or interfere with the investigations. But there is also another theory that there has been a deliberate attempt to criminalise the prime minister," he was quoted as saying.

Rahman added that this apparent plot to criminalise Najib was also echoed by newly-appointed Attorney-General Tan Sri Mohamed Apandi Ali.

"If you are a politician, of course you would take some pre-emptive steps so that it doesn't happen," Rahman was quoted as saying in the report, then adding that to date, there was no evidence of wrongdoing by Najib. – The Malaysian Insider
