BUKIT BERUNTUNG (Feb 5): Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said yesterday he was ready to face all eventualities, ahead of the Federal Court's decision next Tuesday on his appeal to overturn his sodomy conviction.

"What I will face come February 10, we submit it to God, whatever its outcome," Anwar told some 100 people gathered at a mosque in Bukit Beruntung, Selangor, where he delivered a religious talk.

His speech is part of a series of PKR's "Rakyat Hakim Negara" (The people are the judge) roadshows ahead of the Federal Court decision on February 10, which could see the end of his political career if he is sent to jail for more than two years.

The apex court on February 10 will deliver its verdict on Anwar's appeal against a conviction of sodomising his former aide Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan.

The opposition leader is looking at a jail term of five years - the sentence passed by the Court of Appeal which overturned his acquittal by the High Court.

Anwar could also lose his Permatang Pauh parliamentary seat if his conviction is upheld.

Chief Justice Tun Arifin Zakaria led a five-man bench to hear the appeal last October which ended on November 7.

In his speech, Anwar spoke about the responsibilities of a government towards the people, and said the Selangor government under Pakatan Rakyat cared for the people's welfare.

"As the economic advisor in Selangor, I always counsel the new menteri besar (Mohamed Azmin Ali) to pay attention to people's needs," he said.
