MELBOURNE (June 1): Malaysia’s Prime Minister in waiting Anwar Ibrahim says he would like to stay out of the Cabinet for now to give Mahathir Mohammad “a free hand” to run the country.

* “It would be very uncomfortable” to be part of Mahathir’s Cabinet "knowing our past relations and very tough exchanges,” Anwar says in an interview with ABC AM Radio

* Says he wants to reengage with his friends and supporters inside the country and overseas in preparation for his return to office

* Says he may come to Australia in late June or late July
