PUTRAJAYA (June 4): Malaysia's Transport Ministry expects to raise over RM22 million from the planned introduction and sale of a special vehicle registration number series bearing the word "Malaysia".

Transport Minister Anthony Loke told reporters here today that the expected revenue from the sale of the "Malaysia" vehicle registration number series is based on the RM22.48 million raised from the sale of the "V" vehicle registration number series.

"The bidding process will be entirely managed by the Road Transport Department.

"Previously, there were [bidding of] special numbers which were given to non-governmental organisations [to manage]... The revenue did not go into government accounts. We have stopped this practice," Loke said.

He said the ministry will invite bids for vehicle registration numbers "Malaysia 1" to "Malaysia 9999" between July 2 and 16 this year. Loke said the results will be announced on Aug 23.
