KUALA LUMPUR (April 1): The government had issued 107,146 traffic summonses via Automatic Awareness Security System (AWAS) cameras between Sept 1, 2018 and Jan 31, 2019, Transport Minister Anthony Loke told the Parliament today.

Loke said each notice carried a compound worth RM300.

“Between Sept 1, 2018 and Dec 31, 2018, 84,165 notices had been issued [under AWAS]. In January 2019, 22,981 notices had been issued. Generally, notices issued have reduced,” he said.

It was reported that the government took over the AWAS project since Sept 1, 2018 from the Armed Forces Fund Board, which is also known as Lembaga Tabung Angkatan Tentera.

It was reported that AWAS was formerly known as the Automated Enforcement System (AES) before the takeover.
