KUALA LUMPUR: Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) said yesterday it remains open to cooperating with any group or individual that wanted to replace the ruling Barisan Nasional government, and this includes PAS.

According to Bernama, Amanah’s deputy chairman Salahuddin Ayub said Amanah is an inclusive party and is willing to hold discussions with any party, non-governmental organisation or person that share its goals for Malaysia.

This includes PAS, from which Amanah leaders had broken away to form the new party.

“As an Islamic political party that is inclusive, Amanah is of course open to holding discussions, including with PAS, or with any party, if the need arises,” Salahuddin said in a statement yesterday.

His statement appears to contradict that of another Amanah leader, Mohamed Hanipa Maidin, who last week said PAS has no place in any future opposition coalition.

The Malaysian Insider quoted PKR deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali that the party wants PAS to be a part of the new opposition coalition, despite objections from DAP and Amanah. — Bernama/The Malaysian Insider
