KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 18): Norway-based Aker Solutions' Malaysian operating unit Aker Solutions Malaysia Sdn Bhd said on Friday the oil and gas support services group considers the charge on Friday against Aker Engineering Malaysia manager Ahmad Hatta Kamaruzzaman, who is accused of giving false material information to the Companies Commission of Malaysia, as "groundless".

In a statement, Aker Solutions Malaysia said the group remains committed to cooperating with local authorities in the countries where its operates.

"On Feb 18, 2022, a manager of Aker Solutions in Malaysia was charged at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court for issues relating to the company's annual return. This follows a similar charge which was brought against another manager of Aker Solutions in Malaysia in January this year.

"In November 2021, the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court dismissed a similar charge against one of the managers. The court found the charge to be groundless and fundamentally defective.

"Both of the managers rejected the allegations. Aker Solutions fully supports the two managers, and considers the charge today to also be groundless," Aker Solutions Malaysia said.

Ahmad Hatta on Friday claimed trial at the Sessions Court here.

The charge sheet said Ahmad Hatta is alleged to have provided false information about Aker Engineering when submitting the annual return form dated May 19, 2017 at the Companies Commission of Malaysia's office at No 7, Jalan Stesen Sentral 5, here, in June 2017.

He is charged under the Companies Act 2016, according to the document.
