KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 10): AirAsia Bhd chief executive officer Tan Sri Tony Fernandes said he will accept job applications from Malaysia Airline System Bhd (MAS) employees who may lose their jobs as part of the restructuring exercise undertaken by Khazanah Nasional Bhd, adding that the low cost carrier has already done so before.

“AirAsia’s success is down to a lot of MAS employees, almost 50% of our staff are ex-MAS employees, so of course we would [consider their applications],” he told reporters today.

When asked if he has received any resumes from former MAS employees, Fernandes quipped that AirAsia receives resumes from former MAS employees daily, adding that some AirAsia staff have joined MAS, as well and it is the norm between the two airlines.

As part of its restructuring of the national carrier, Khazanah announced it will cut 6,000 jobs, approximating 30% of 20,000 strong workforce, and will move its operations from Subang to the Kuala Lumpur International Airport.
