KUALA LUMPUR (March 28): Capital A Bhd’s airasia Super App has launched its SUPER+ subscription plan, which enables subscribers to enjoy unlimited flight redemption, free delivery of airasia food and Covid-19 pre-departure insurance coverage for a year.

During a virtual press conference held on Monday (March 28), Capital A chief executive officer (CEO) Tan Sri Tony Fernandes said Super App users will be able to subscribe to SUPER+ for RM639 from Monday to April 2.

“SUPER+ is our Amazon Prime, our Netflix subscription, our all-you-can-eat. While others have movies or deliveries, we are the first to combine flights and deliveries,” he said.

Fernandes noted that SUPER+ will only be limited to 200,000 subscribers for the time being, adding that the group will extend SUPER+’s subscriber capacity if the product is successful.

“We do not know if this will carry on after this, but we will give it a try, and if it works, then we will carry on and extend it. But for the moment, only 200,000 people are gonna get it, so first come, first served.

“I hope the 200,000 people that grab it will enjoy it, and if it is successful we will definitely keep rolling it out like Amazon Prime did. The team initially wanted to put out one million, but I said let's just start with 200,000 and see how it goes first.

“We only issued a very small amount as if you think, basically with 70 planes, we are selling about 65,000 seats a day, so 200,000 in effect is about three days of our sales,” Fernandes said.

airasia Super App CEO Amanda Woo said the launch of the SUPER+ pass is very timely as it comes in line with a strong rebound in air travel as various countries across ASEAN have announced the reopening of their borders.

“Air travel is on a strong rebound, especially with various countries across ASEAN announcing the reopening of borders and more vaccinated travel lane arrangements.

“SUPER+ will certainly facilitate affordable and convenient travel for everyone to visit and explore the many destinations within the wide network connectivity of AirAsia Aviation Group,” she added.

Besides SUPER+, Woo said the group had extended the group’s preceding AirAsia ASEAN Unlimited Pass for a further three months until June 2022 to allow pass holders who could not travel previously due to Covid-19 lockdowns to utilise their passes to travel around the ASEAN region.

SUPER+ offerings

According to a statement released in conjunction with the virtual press conference, SUPER+ subscribers will be able to fly with unlimited flight redemption across all AirAsia airlines (flight codes AK, FD, QZ and Z2) across the ASEAN region for both domestic and international destinations.

“SUPER+ subscribers will be able to redeem their flights from March 28, 2022 until March 27, 2023 and travel throughout April 11, 2022 to April 10, 2023,” it read.

In addition, the group said subscribers will also be able to utilise unlimited free delivery for airasia food orders across Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia.

During the press conference, airasia SUPER+ head Sean Ter said the Philippines is to be added into this pool around June and July as soon as the Super App's food delivery service is launched in the country.

The SUPER+ subscription plan also provides Covid-19 pre-departure insurance coverage, which enables subscribers to claim insurance benefits in the event they contract Covid-19 within seven days before their scheduled departure.

“Subscribers can look forward to more benefits from across the whole airasia ecosystem that will be subsequently added as part of this subscription, including discounts on airasia ride, airasia xpress, SNAP, hotels and more,” the group added.

At the noon break on Monday, Capital A shares were down two sen or 2.99% at 65 sen, giving the group a market capitalisation of RM2.71 billion.
