KUALA LUMPUR (April 4): Low-cost carrier AirAsia Group Bhd has launched a campaign to help local businesses that are facing challenges during the Movement Control Order (MCO) period.

Dubbed Save Our Shops (SOS), the campaign allows merchants to sign up at zero commission and zero listing fee to market their products on AirAsia's OURSHOP — its e-commerce platform that is hosted on the website airasia.com

"A lot of small businesses are being hit hard due to the Covid-19 outbreak. So AirAsia would like to do our part in helping as many local businesses as possible in this time of need. We have the right platform and infrastructure, and in this travel down-time, what better way to put our resources to good use than by lending a helping hand to those who need it," AirAsia said in a statement today.

The zero commission and zero listing fee will be applicable for the whole month of April. However, these shops will be required to cover the banking transaction charges of 2% for each sale made.

Products sold through OURSHOP will be delivered via Teleport, the logistics arm of AirAsia.

"As we have helped millions of people to fly, we now want to use our infrastructure and resources to help retailers who are shunned and can't earn any revenue. So we have created OURSHOP, which together with Teleport, we'll be delivering goods from shops that are closed," AirAsia co-founder and group CEO Tan Sri Tony Fernandes said on his Instagram today.
