KUALA LUMPUR (Dec 30): AirAsia Bhd and AirAsia X Bhd has prohibited lithium battery-powered personal transportation devices including hoverboards, segways, and electronic scooters on flights.

In a statement today, budget airline AirAsia said it had prohibited these items as check-in and hand-carry baggage on all AirAsia and AirAsia X flights effective today.

"Under certain circumstances, carriage of battery-operated wheelchairs or mobility devices might be accepted subject to removal of the battery by guests, while the maximum weight allowed for wheelchairs and mobility devices is 85kg.

"Guests travelling with battery-operated items are encouraged to refer to AirAsia’s guideline available on www.airasia.com/ask," AirAsia said.

At 11:14am, AirAsia Bhd shares fell one sen or 0.8% to RM1.29 for a market capitalisation of RM3.59 billion.

AirAsia X, however, rose 0.5 sen or 2.8% to 18.5 sen for a market value of RM767.4 million.
