KUALA LUMPUR (Dec 11): Shares in AirAsia X Bhd (AAX) and AirAsia Group Bhd rose this morning after the group said it was in discussion with India-based conglomerate Tata Group on the future of their joint venture (JV), AirAsia (India) Ltd.

AAX, among the most actively traded stocks this morning, rose one sen or 11.11% to 10 sen. The counter saw 42.59 million shares traded.

Meanwhile, AirAsia climbed as much as 3.5 sen or 4% to 91 sen. At 9.41am, the counter had pared some gains at 90 sen, still up 2.5 sen or 2.86%.

Yesterday, AirAsia Group Bhd group chief executive officer (CEO) Tan Sri Tony Fernandes was quoted as saying by CNBC TV18 that the group was in a discussion with Tata.

“Whether we should put money to continue in India or to expand in Asean, that's a discussion I am having with my partners in India, and there will be some announcements one way or the other," Fernandes said.

Meanwhile, he was also quoted as saying he foresaw air travel to return strongly, expecting international routes to open in the next six months.
