KUALA LUMPUR (March 10): AirAsia X Bhd (AAX) has partnered with Japanese counterpart AirAsia Japan Co Ltd (AAJ) to provide commercial sharing services.

AirAsia X today entered into a Commercial Services Agreement with AirAsia Japan to provide commercial sharing services and support to AAJ, for the purpose of the AAJ’s flights into and out of the destinations that it flies to.

The agreement valued at RM332,000 and valid for one year, will cover services to be provided by AAX departments at Taiwan’s Taoyuan International Airport (TPE) in Taipei. These services will be rendered by its line operations and people department.

In a statement to Bursa, AAX said that in order for AAJ to facilitate its operational requirements in TPE, it will require operational assistance from AAX through its employees, office premises and other applicable facilities.

AAJ was incorporated in 2014 through a joint venture between AirAsia Bhd through its wholly-owned subsidiary AirAsia Investment Ltd, Octave Japan Infrastructure Fund I GK, Rakuten Inc, and Noevir Holdings Co Ltd.

AAJ obtained its Air Operator’s Certificate in 2015 from Japan’s Transport Ministry to operate flights in Japan. Its fleet consists of two Airbus A320 and it is planning its first international destination from Chubu Centrair International Airport, Japan to TPE in the first half of the year.

“With the view of the above as an initial start to the charge back arrangement between AAX and AAJ under the agreement, the agreement itself will accommodate to future requests by AAJ to procure services from AAX in other stations or countries that AAX operates as well.” Said AAX

The agreement is not expected to have any material effect on the earnings of the company for the financial year ending December 31, 2017.
