(April 29): After being accused by Datuk Ahmad Maslan of not understanding the recently implemented goods and services tax (GST), Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad today criticised the deputy finance minister for not knowing anything about finance, Malaysiakini reported.

"I do not know what he is talking about.

"He looks after finance, but he does not know anything about finance," said Dr Mahathir.

Ahmad had accused Dr Mahathir of not understanding GST, and said that this was the reason the former prime minister suggested that the government abolish the controversial consumption tax.

“I think the people around him did not give him the proper explanation about GST. The GST percentage is much lower than SST (sales and services tax). So, how can he say it’s better for the government to cancel GST?” the Pontian MP was quoted as saying.

He also urged those close to Dr Mahathir to explain GST clearly to him, “without being influenced by the negative comments of the opposition”. – The Malaysian Insider
