KUALA LUMPUR (May 18): Perusahaan Otomobil Kedua Sdn Bhd (Perodua) announced it will offer a cash rebate ranging between RM1,000 and RM3,800 for new vehicle purchases, ahead of the zero-rated goods and services tax (GST) beginning June.

In addition, Perodua said it will fully reimburse the GST to its customers who service their vehicle or buy auto parts between today and May 31, 2018.

“Perodua will fully reimburse our valued customers, the GST amount in cash, upon registration or servicing of their vehicles, as well as parts purchased,” Perodua Sales Sdn Bhd Managing Director Datuk Dr Zahari Husin said in a media statement today.

According to Zahari, the amount of the GST rebate will be based on the vehicles nett selling price without GearUp accessories, insurance and other selling expenses.

“For our customers who have made transactions at any of our service centres today (May 18, 2018), we will reimburse you in the form of e-vouchers, which is valid on June 1, 2018 onwards,” Zahari said.

“Starting from tomorrow (May 19, 2018), our customers will receive an instant 6% cash rebate for vehicles serviced,” he added.

Zahari said the GST rebate is Perodua’s own initiative. He hopes customers would take advantage of this at both Perodua’s sales and services outlets.

The Finance Ministry had on May 16, announced that the GST will be zero-rated beginning June, from 6% currently.
