KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 22): The heads of the Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalitions have been summoned to the Istana Negara for an audience with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong after His Majesty had found that no Member of Parliament has obtained enough support to become Malaysia’s 10th prime minister.

“Since no members of the Dewan Rakyat had the trust of a simple majority, His Majesty is giving an audience to the leaders of PH and PN at 4.30pm at the Palace,” said Istana Negara's Comptroller of the Royal Household Datuk Seri Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin on Tuesday (Nov 22).

According to Astro Awani, PN leader Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin had arrived at 4.05pm, followed by PH's Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim at 4.10pm.

Ahmad Fadil has confirmed that the Palace has received the nominations of the future PM from all heads of political parties and coalitions as requested on Sunday (Nov 20).

The process had been intended for the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah to decide on the appointment of an MP who, according to His Majesty's judgement, may have obtained the support of the majority of MPs to become the PM, as provided under Article 43(2)(a) of the Federal Constitution.

“His Majesty has urged and advised the rakyat to stay patient and calm until the process of forming a new Government and the nomination of the 10th PM is completed," said Ahmad Fadil.

In the 15th general election, PH is the coalition that won the highest number of parliamentary seats at 82, followed by PN, which won a total of 73 seats.

None of the parties has gained a simple majority of 112 seats.

On Tuesday, the third day since the polling date, neither PH nor PN has commanded a majority despite intense negotiations with other coalitions; Barisan Nasional has 30 seats, Gabungan Parti Sarawak has 23, Gabungan Rakyat Sabah has six, while Warisan has three. The remaining four seats are held by Parti Kesejahteraan Demokratik Masyarakat, Parti Bangsa Malaysia, and two independents.
