KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 21): With the consent of Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, leaders of political parties and coalitions have been granted an additional day to inform Istana Negara of the agreed combination of political parties to form the next Government, as well as submit the name of the prime minister candidate.

As a result, the submission to form the next Government has been pushed to 2pm on Tuesday (Nov 22).

In a statement on Monday, Comptroller of the Royal Household Datuk Seri Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin said the Yang di-Pertuan Agong’s order of consent is in response to requests for an extension of time the Palace received from leaders of political parties and coalitions on Monday.

Pending the formation of the new Government and the naming of Malaysia’s next PM, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong advised the rakyat to remain patient and calm.

“His Majesty also reminded that the national administration is still running as usual under the management of the caretaker PM (Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob) based on the principles outlined for the caretaker Government,” Ahmad Fadil added.

The Royal Household’s Comptroller said the Yang di-Pertuan Agong also asked the rakyat to pray that the formation of the new Government and naming of the PM run smoothly for the interests of the nation.

“His Majesty also called on the rakyat to pray that Malaysia be blessed and protected from any form of disaster and calamity,” he said.

In the early hours of Sunday, Election Commission chairman Tan Sri Abdul Ghani Salleh informed the Palace that no political parties managed to obtain a simple majority of seats in Parliament to form a Government after the 15th general election (GE15).

Pakatan Harapan has obtained 82 parliamentary seats, followed by Perikatan Nasional (73), Barisan Nasional (30), Gabungan Parti Sarawak (22), Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (six), and Warisan (three).

Parti Kesejahteraan Demokratik Masyarakat and Parti Bangsa Malaysia secured one seat each, while two seats were won by independents.
