KUALA LUMPUR: Affin Bank Bhd has appointed Datuk Agil Natt as the group’s chairman effective Friday, replacing General Tan Sri Mohd Zahidi Zainuddin.

Agil is currently the chairman of Credit Guarantee Corp Malaysia Bhd, Manulife Insurance Bhd and Manulife Asset Management Services Bhd, the bank said in a filing with Bursa Malaysia yesterday.

He also sits on the boards of Cagamas Bhd and Sogo (KL) Department Store Sdn Bhd, and is a member of the Employees Provident Fund Board’s investment panel.

Affin Bank said Agil has a vast experience in corporate and investment banking as well as Islamic finance.

He began in corporate finance with Bumiputra Merchant Bankers Bhd in 1977 before becoming senior general manager of Island & Peninsular Bhd. He was also the regional chief representative of Kleinwort Benson Ltd before joining Maybank Group in 1995.

Thereafter, he was the president and chief executive officer of the International Centre for Education in Islamic Finance.
