KUALA LUMPUR (March 25): The Cabinet has endorsed the appointment of former prime minister Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi as adviser of state-owned oil company Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas), effective April 1, after Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad was dropped from the post earlier this month for no longer being supportive of the present government, according to Bernama today.

Mahathir's removal came after the Cabinet unanimously voted for his removal on March 11.

"The decision to terminate the appointment of Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad was made by the Cabinet since he was no longer supporting the present government, especially with the launch of 'Deklarasi Rakyat' (people's declaration) together with opposition leaders," said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak in the Bernama report, citing a statement from the premier today.
